Seven Things To Do While You Quarantine and Chill pt. 1

Being forced to stay home and not work hits differently. Since I first heard of us having to “stay home and quarantine” I was immediately overwhelmed with stress. Stress of not having income, stress of having to spend all day in the house under my current living situation, stress of still being expected to pay bills, and so much more. After a few days I realized that I could use this time to do things I claimed to never have the time for before. I could use this time to realign. Even though every day isn’t as optimistic and productive as it could be, I have come to a realization of how beneficial this time can be to me. 

This new found understanding has given me the energy and motivation I needed to finish old projects, do things I always wanted to do but never did, and tap into my creative side and come up with new ideas to express who I am. So today I am sharing a list of seven things that you can do to pass time while staying home. 

Play Online Games

There are many different games you can play online via laptop/computer or even through apps on your phone. I typically do not play online games but I do love the apps Wordscapes and Stop. Check them out and let me know what you think. 

Read A Book

I know I’m not the only one who has books that I purchased with the intention of reading them but somehow never got around to it…am I? Nahh, I don’t think so. Grab them books and get to reading. You can even reread a book you already read.

Listen to a Podcast

There are so many podcasts out there about a ton of different topics on a variety of platforms. Do a little bit of research and find a podcast that talks about something that interests you and give it a listen. My absolute favorite podcast at the moment is The Black Girl Bravado Podcast. They are mad funny, informative, down to earth, and they talk about a lot of different things. I promise you wont regret listening to them. 

Meditate

Meditation is wonderful and very beneficial. There are a number of apps you can use to help with your understanding of meditation and how to do it. Do a little bit of research first and then give it a try. Learning about it first will give you a better understanding of what to expect and what not to expect.

Learn A New Skill

You can look up anything on YouTube. Like, they have a video for everything. Whenever I want to learn how to do something I go to Youtube and boom, I’ve got a new skill. There are also tons of people on different social media platforms who offer online classes and courses that will even sometimes result in certifications. 

Write

Writing can be extremely therapeutic. Both in that moment as well as when you decide to reread the things you’ve written. It is important to write during this “mandatory quarantine” so that you are able to maintain some sort of mental stability. This can be a very difficult and trying time as we may be faced with some uncomfortable situations.

Reflect and Refocus

This is the perfect time to reflect and refocus. We are three months into 2020 and we have been presented with the opportunity to sit still. There isn’t anything holding some of us back from doing the internal work that is necessary for us to be able to follow through on those new year resolutions. This of this as an opportunity to start over. Use this time to look back at these three months and see where you were headed. If it isn’t in the direction you wish to go, refocus yourself and come up with the needed steps to get you on the right track. You got this!
